HONDA Integra
about Integra
The Integra was a sporty FWD vehicle sold in the US market under the Acura brand. Although initially available as a sedan and hatchback, the sedan was dropped with the fourth generation DC5, also known in the U.S. as the RSX.Released in 1985, this 3 or 5-door hatchback sported a 1.6 L DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine as its biggest selling point, as DOH Cams were rare on cars in its price range. The 2. gen. Integra was released in 1990, featuring a upgraded 1.8L engine (B18A1) making 130 hp, boosting performance over the previous gen., further more, the 4-door sedan replaced the 5-door hatchback model. The GS-R trim model was powered by the B17A1 VTEC 160 hp (119.3 kW) engine with a 8000 rpm redline.
The 3rd. gen. integra launched in 1994, the early models characterized by the bug-eye head lights. The lineup featured the B18B engine, now outputting 142 hp, and the GS-R spec featuring the B18C engine with dual-stage intake manifold and displacement increased to 1.8 liters, bringing power up to 170 hp. A R-Type model was introduced in '95, powered by a highly tuned, hand-finished variant of the GS-R's engine. The JDM B18C Spec-R (B18C5 for USDM) equipped Type-R produced 197 hp. The Type R was the pinnacle of the Integra line. It had many exclusive features found on no other Integra. Features included 5-MT, upgraded transmission, adjusted final drive, torque-sensing LSD, upgraded interior and reduced weight. The result was a quick, Type-R that could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 6.2 seconds, and had track ready handling. The car was considerably more noisy, and the stiffer bushings and suspensions that gave it perfect track performance made it unpractical for daily use.
The line ended in 2006, do to the diminishing coupe market.
The Integra is a popular tuning base for Grip racers and USDM Spo-Com style car enthusiasts in Japan. There are many examples of F&F movie/Spo-Com influenced Integras as well as more performance themed builds rolling around. Popular upgrades to the the Civic includeds swapping out the engine for a larger replacement, replacing the stock engine components for high performance replacements (cams, pistons etc.), or bolting on a turbocharger. There are many Honda dedicated tuning garages around Japan such as M&M Honda and Spoon. Aero, Exhaust, Engine Parts, Suspension and more can be found to increase the power and handling abilities of your Integra.
