about S2000

The Honda S2000 roadster was launched in 1999 by Honda. The initial release model, the AP1, featured a front-mid mounted engine and rear wheel drive. The S2000 is powered by a 1,997 cc F20C inline 4 cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine, producing up to 250 PS (184 kW), and 22.2 kg/m (218 N/m) of torque. The AP1 also featured a 6-speed manual transmission, and a Torsen LSD. The suspension was a double wishbone setup, and electrically-assisted steering. The lightweight engine obtained a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution, and low rotational inertia. The S2000 came with a electrically powered vinyl top with internal cloth lining was standard.

The AP2 was released in 2004, a new suspension system was introduced, reducing the oversteer. Other updates feature improvements include spring rate updates, and changes to the suspension geometry. Cosmetic changes were also made to the exterior with new front and rear bumpers and revised headlight assemblies.

The AP2 in the USDM, featured the F22C1 engine, providing the same 237 hp, but added further 6% torque, upping it to 62 ft/lbf (220 N/m). In 2008, a sporty model was introduced in the U.S., the S2000 CR. This model sported lowered weight, and increased handling. Changes to the body kit also allowed for better down force and drag ratios.

The S2000 line was stopped, and the successor canceled after the 2008 auto crisis.

The S2000 is a big hit with the grip racing enthusiast. The powerful F20/F22 engine powering the rear wheels of the car is the perfect sports car setup to many enthusiasts. The S2000 has strong support with parts makers all across Japan, with everything from Carbon Fiber body panels and Pistons kits to Shift Knobs and Floor Mats available. The S2000's engine is also a popular choice for engine swapping over to AE86's, BMWs, and other cars.
