about Axela

Released in 2003, the Mazda Axela was produced and marketed as a value oriented sedan. The styling, handling and interior was reminiscent of expensive sports cars, and the Axela proved to be a big hit world wide. Initial criticism of the Axela pointed at the low crash test scores, and sluggish fuel economy. The crash test scores were however improved later, by making 6 airbags standard. The Axela was available as a 5-door hatchback / wagon or 4-door sedan, with engine sizes ranging from 1.5L to 2.3. The stock, base model Axela clocked 0-100km/h at 14.3 specs, with the 2004 2.3L edition pushing the time down to 8.5, and a limited top speed of 190km/h.

The Mazdaspeed3 version featured a turbocharged 2.3 liter engine producing 263 bhp. The Mazdaspeed version has been clocked at 5.4 seconds to 60 mph. It has been compared to the Lancer Evo and the WRX STI for its balance of speed practicality and value.

A new version of the Axela is slated for 2010, featuring a new updated design and updated engine performance.

Like the Atenza, the JDM Aftermarket offers a variety of parts to increase the performance capabilities of the already great performing Axela. Exhaust, Suspension, Aero Parts, and more are readily available to build a one of a kind Axela.
