about SA22C RX-7

The Mazda RX-7 SA22C was the first of the now legendary RX series from Mazda. Featuring the revolutionary rotary engine, the RX-7 was a real beast of a racer, packing 100 bhp in a super lightweight construction, pushing the RX-7 past 190 km/h. The weight distribution, suspension and overall handling were quite superior for its time. The rotary engine produces so little noise and vibration, that a buzzer was installed, to ward the driver when he was nearing the rev limit.

In 1971 RX-7 won 1. and 2. place in the 24 hour Daytona, and kept on winning, taking the GTU 7 years in a row, and the GTO championship 10 years in a row. The RX-7 has won more IMSA races than any other car model.

The SA RX-7 was popular for all sorts of motorsports competition. The Circuit races, Gymkhana/Autocross, Rally, Drag Racing, even in rare cases, Drifting. The SA is currently still a popular base car for Drag racing in the US and Puerto Rico.
