NISSAN R32 Skyline GTS-T
about R32 Skyline GTS-T
The HCR32 Skyline debuted in May 1989. It was available as either a 2-door coupe or 4-door hardtop sedan, all other bodystyles were dropped. The R32 featured several versions of the RB-series straight-6 engines, which had improved heads and used the ECCS (Electronically Concentrated Control System) injection system. Also available were an 1,800 cc 4 cylinder GXi model. Most models had HICAS four-wheel steering, with the rear wheels being hydraulically linked to the front steering. The 2.5 litre version became one of the first cars made in Japan to feature a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The R32 Skyline is a very popular tuning car in Japan. Although the RB20DET engine was a considered a very potent engine in the past, the engine today is considered to be something needing replacing by many tuners. Regardless of this, the RB20 can be tuned to pack a punch. A Boost-Up level tune up to 0.9kg/cm2 yields close to 250ps with the stock RB20 turbine and it is said that close to 280 ~ 300ps can be made with a swap to a stock RB25 turbine. In order to be competitive in pro level competition today, the Skyline's engine is commonly swapped out with a range of engines. Everything from the SR20, larger RB engines, and even Toyota engines like the 1JZ have been swapped into the R32. The Skyline's Front Multi-Link suspension is also a point of headache for those wanting to lower their cars. To combat the problems of "Arm Lock" and to get the suspension to work like it should, a variety of measures are taken. Major brands have release shorter Upper Links, some have modified the Third Link of the R32, and others have installed BNR32 GT-R Third Links to get an extra inch lower in ride height while keeping decent handling. In extreme cases, owners have swapped the front strut suspension design from the S13 over to their R32's.
