NISSAN R33 Skyline GT-R
about R33 Skyline GT-R
The BCNR33 GT-R version had the same RB26DETT engine that the BNR32 also was equipped with, but minor changes still provided a performance upgrade. From the R33 onward, all GT-Rs received Brembo brakes. In 1995 the GT-R received an improved version of the RB26DETT, all wheel drive system, and Super HICAS all-wheel steering. A limited edition model was created in 1996, called the NISMO 400R, that produced 400 hp (298 kW) from a road-tuned version of Nissan's Le Mans engine.
Dirk Schoysman drove a R33 GT-R around the Nordschleife in less than 8 minutes. It is sometimes said that this was the first production car to achieve that particular landmark, but it had already been achieved by a Jaguar XJ220, making the run in just 7'46. The R33 GT-R never managed to impact the racing community to the same degree as its predecessor.
Retaining the RB26DETT engine first seen in the BNR32, the BCNR33 is mechanically identical to its predecessor however because of its bigger, more conservative body style, the BCNR33's popularity is much lower than the BNR32 and the BNR34.
Like the BNR32, the BCNR33 is a popular base model for Circuit, Drag, and Top Speed Racing. At a simple Boost-Up level, the RB26DETT still packs a serious punch. Simply upping the boost from Stock (0.84 bar) to 1.00 bar increases the power output of the engine from 280ps to the 400ps range!!
