NISSAN R33 Skyline GTS-T
about R33 Skyline GTS-T
The R33 Skyline was brought to market in August 1993. Weighing a little heavier than the stock R32, the R33 came as both Sedan, and coupe types. All the new models featured a 6-cylinder engine. The GTS model was down-graded to have only the RB20E. As with the R32, all manual transmissions on the 2.5 litre non-turbo models were 5 speed, all 2 litre and turbo 2.5 litre automatic models were equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Super HICAS was another new development, replacing the HICAS 4-wheel steering system on some models. An active limited slip differential was also available as an option instead of the viscous LSD. Active LSD came standard on all V-spec GT-R's. The RB25DE and RB25DET engines also became equipped with NVCS (Nissan Variable Cam Timing).
It's conservative looks and large, round body style makes the R33 the most unpopular out of the R32, R33, and R34 Skyline. The RB25DET engine is a potent engine popularly tuned by enthusiasts within Japan and around the world. Rather than tuning the whole package of the R33 with the RB25 however, the 2.5 liter engine is normally pulled out and swapped into the R32, A31 Cefiro, C33/C34/C35 Laurel, or other Nissan chassis. The lack of popularity of the R33 also however is a point of attraction for people wanting to standout in the drifting events full of Silvias, 180's, and TourerV's. There have been recent Aero Parts/Body Kits released by companies in an effort to jump start the popularity of the skyline however the population of tuned R33's has yet to see a dramatic increase.
