about Z32 Fairlady Z 300ZX

The Z32 was the immediate successor to the popular Fairlady Z31 from Nissan. Initially released as a NA in early 1989, it was soon accompanied by a twin turbo version. The car came equipped the the powerful VG30DETT engine, but due to a gentleman's agreement in the japanese auto industry it was rated at 276 HP. The Z32 also featured a overhead dual cam system.

Because the twin turbo version was never officially sold in the US, the Twin turbo upgrade is popular among owners, importing the Turbos & parts, and installing them in their NA Z32s. The Z32 was also a relatively safe sports car for its time receiving an "average" crash test rating, beating contemporary sports cars.

The Fairlady's have long been known to the racing scene, and the Z32 also had its time in the sun, winning the 1986 Trans Am as well as the 1994 24 hour Daytona run. It was also the center of controversy as it took the top podium in the GTS-1 class LeMans later that year. The controversy resulted in twin turbine engines being banned the following year. The Z32 is still accredited with a land speed record at Bonneville set in 91, pushing the car past 419km/h.

The Z32 is moderately popular within the tuning industry. The high price for parts and lack of working room in the engine bay could be attributed to the Z32's lack of popularity. There are exceptions to this and when done right, the Z32 perform excellently. Great examples of Z32's can be seen the Spo-Com/LUX/DUB world, well as in Drag racing and Circuit/Top Speed racing. A bright yellow Z32 driven by Satoru Koyama is currently being campaigned in the D1 Grand Prix!
