SUBARU BG5 BD5 BL5 BP5 Legacy
about BG5 BD5 BL5 BP5 Legacy
The Subaru Legacy was launched in 1989, with worldwide distribution starting in 1990. The Legacy was an unconventional car for Subaru, it was aerodynamic and it had a small new EJ engine.
The small but powerful engine was a DOHC 2.0 liter turbocharged EJ20G engine, producing 217 bhp, later used on the Impreza WRX.
The 2nd generation of Legacies were introduced in 1993, with some minor changes to the stylings. In 1996, the engine was upgraded to a NA EJ25D DOHC 2.5 L, and driver & front passenger airbags were added.
1998 saw the 3rd generation Legacy come to market. The upgrades featured AWD in all markets, new available engine models, and a 3.0l six cylinder engine with a timing chain.
Flat roof wagons were no longer produced, and the Legacy roof was changed to a raised roof. A new smart transmission with advanced traction and RPM control abilities was introduced.
Bringing further upgrades, the 4.th generation Legacy featured a stiffer chassis, and a turbocharged engine in the US, however due to advancements in turbocharger technology and tightening emission standards, it was reduced to a single turbine. 2008 saw the discontinuation of the Legacy wagon and Outback sedan from the US markets.
The Legacy was the first rally chassis used by Subaru before development of the Impreza. Like its more popular cousin, the Legacy comes with 4WD capability and the EJ20/EJ25 engine. Its larger size however has led to it being replaced by the Impreza for WRC competition. The Legacy is the perfect car for a street cruiser, having the capabilities of the sportier Impreza in a larger chassis. Also because of the interchangeable parts between the two, there are many aftermarket options available to the Legacy owner. Aero Parts, Suspension, Exhaust, Wheels, Interior, etc. can be upgraded and parts are readily available through a wide variety of garages and parts manufacturers all over Japan.
