SUBARU GC8 Impreza
about GC8 Impreza
This hit series of cars by Subaru was launched in 1993, featuring the EJ engine series.
"GC"/"GF"/"GM"
The Impreza was launched as a four-door sedan/saloon and five-door station wagon/estate with either FWD or AWD. '95 saw a two-door coupe added. 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0-litre engines were initially available, as well as the turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-litre engines, Producing up to 282 bhp.
The STI version was released in '94, featuring an upgrades over the standard Impreza with blueprinted performance-tuned engine and upgraded transmissions / suspension. The STI models came with larger power figures than the standard WRX, with power being rated at 280ps. Like all Japanese vehicles, it was limited electronically to 180 km/h, 0-100 km/h was achieved in 4.9 seconds. RA (Race Altered) versions of the WRX and STI were also available. RA versions of the Impreza are lighter in weight, with reductions in sound proofing, manual windows, no A/C, tweaks to the engine and center differential, and shorter transmission gears. The STI version was hugely successful and popular in rally events all over the world.
North America never received a Turbo charged version of the first generation Impreza.
The GC8 Impreza is extremely popular among gymkhana and grip racers. The powerful EJ20 engine and great handling 4WD system makes for a perfect tuning base, and has proven itself to be a great performer by many highly tuned examples within Japan and throughout the world. Imprezas can be seen in professional motorsports competitions such as the WRC, Japan's Super GT, and recently the D1 Grand Prix drifting competition. Aero Parts, Suspension, Exhaust, Wheels, Interior, etc. all aspects of the GC8 can be upgraded and parts are readily available through a wide variety of garages and parts manufacturers all over Japan.
