Released in 2007, this Impreza moved further away from the raw, youthful image of the first model. Aiming at a more mainstream market, the new Impreza is a practical performance car. More comfortable shocks, and added features such as window frames helped bring down the noise and vibration, making for a more drivable car.

JDM market saw a variety of engines: 1.5 litre 15S, the 2.0 litre 20S and the 2.0 litre turbocharged S-GT.

In 2008, the North American market had a 2.5 litre, 2.5i and the 2.5 litre turbocharged WRX. The new Impreza available as a 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback. The  engines remain unaltered, with the EJ253 engine in the 2.5i, and  EJ255 in the turbocharged WRX trim levels. The  STi version was revealed to be a hatchback. The US STI Chassis code is GR, different from the GH used for the 2008 WRX chassis. The impreza STI six speed manual spec R reaches 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and features a manual variable centre differential.

Like its predecessors, the GRB Impreza is popular among gymkhana (autocross) and grip racers. The powerful EJ20 engine and great handling 4WD system makes for a perfect tuning base, and has proven itself to be a great performer by many highly tuned examples within Japan and throughout the world. Aero Parts, Suspension, Exhaust, Wheels, Interior, etc. Parts are readily available through a wide variety of garages and parts manufacturers all over Japan and its tuning parts catalog is continuing to grow.
