The SX4 was the result of a collaboration between Suzuki and Fiat, and this subcompact has been produced since 2006.

Designed for the twist and turns of Europe, this car has been sold in most markets. The SX4 was available with the Swift 1.5 engine, or a new 1.6-litre VVT engine, outputting 107 PS (79 kW). A Fiat diesel engine making 120 PS was also offered. Though initially launched as a five-door hatchback, it has been released as a Sedan, called the SX4 Sport. The USDM version received a 2.0 L 143 hp l4 engine, and AWD as standard, optional was ABS, stability control, and a Touring package. The USDM Sedan was only available in FWD.

Suzuki collaborated with the American tuning company, Road Race Motorsports, to create the SX4t, a turbo charged concept version of the popular SX4 Crossover. Powered by a 16G GT3 Turbo, and featuring a Tial 38 mm wastegate, outputting a total of 7 pounds of boost, the SX4's engine was pushed to 221 horsepower (165 kW) and 208 ft/lbf (282 N/m) of torque. Upgrades to the suspension, rims & tires, brakes, interior, and significant weight reduction were also made by Road Race Motorsports to complete the race ready concept car.

Suzuki has put the SX4 to use as their base for their factory backed FIA World Rally Championship car.

With gas prices on the rise, Japan has seen the trend of mini's becoming the tuning base for today's tuners. Both Supercharger and Turbocharger kits have been developed for a variety of minis as well as selections of aero, exhaust, and suspension parts by many major and minor brands in the JDM tuning industry. The Suzuki SX4 has a variety of parts available for it to be a faster, sharper handling city cruiser.
