TOYOTA Carina Corona Caldina
about Carina Corona Caldina
Carina
The Toyota Carina was marketed as a four-door version of the Toyota Celica. It eventually became a sister car to the Corona but sportier, with a more youthful bodywork and interior- filling a niche between the Corolla and Corona. The Carina name has from time to time been used to represent the Corona. However, the Japanese-market Carina was a completely different car.
Corona:
This popular Toyota model became a huge hit in the export market, but some confusion also arose around this model, as Toyota used varying model names in different countries. In 1969 the Corona Mark II (In certain markets: Cressida) was released, though this was a different model, it also shares the Corona name. In general, the Asian Coronas, turned up in Europe as Carinas.
Caldina
This Japan market exclusive car was released in 1992. Though it has never officially been exported, this large 4WD car is a popular import model in South America and eastern Russia. The original Caldina was a 5 door wagon version of the Corona. The second generation was a Japanese version of Toyota Avensis wagon, while the third generation was another original design. The Caldina was one of the sportiest wagons available from Toyota.
Although normally seen as a regular daily driver and not a viable tuning car, great examples of tweaked and tuned Carinas and Coronas have been built in Japan. The seventh generation Carina however did come with the same engine seen in the AE111 Levin/Trueno, giving it potential of being able to compete with Hondas dominating the FF scene on the track. The Caldina is also a rarely seen tuning base, however the GT-Four models pack the punch of the 3S-GTE engines, a power plant that is easy to extract power from.
