The Celica was a sports coupe line up started by Toyota in 1970. The 7th Generation T230 Celicas were released in 1999. targeted at a younger market this sports car was exported to Europe and the U.S. as an affordable sports car. The T230 series featured either a 1.8 L 4-cylinder 140 hp (104 kW) 1ZZ-FE engine or a performance 1.8 L 4-cylinder 191 hp (142 kW), featuring advanced lift control as well as variable valve timing.

The Celica's lack of power produced by the 2ZZ engine has led to the development of Supercharger and Bolt-On Turbo Kits to feed the ZZT Celica owner's need for more power and better response.
