The Runx was a 5 door hatchback, released by Toyota as a sister car to the Alex on 2001. Based on the Corolla FX hatchback, the Runx featured highly efficient DOHC engines, a twin cam 1500cc 1NZ-FE, or a 1800cc Sports Twin Cam 2ZZ-GE Engine, also available was a 1800 cc Hot Hatch model with a 6 speed manual transmission.

The Runx was available in 3 grades, the X featuring the 1500cc engine and a 4 AT mission and 4WD, The S featuring 1800cc engine, and a Super ECT 4AT mission. The last trim was the Z, a sporty model featuring the 1800cc engine and 6 speed mission, upgraded brakes and drive train.

The Runx's lack of power produced by the 2ZZ engine has led to the development of Supercharger and Bolt-On Turbo Kits to feed the owner's need for more power/speed. Intake, Exhaust, and other go-fast parts are readily available to increase response and power of the small 4 cylinder engine. Suspension, Aero Parts, Interior, and other part are also available to increase the looks and handling of the Runx.
