TOYOTA EP82 EP91 Starlet
about EP82 EP91 Starlet
The Toyota Starlet was introduced in 1973, continuing all the way to 1999. The Starlet was a very popular model, known for its dependability.
80 Series
The Starlet 80 series was released in 1989. The new design featured a more rounded body style and interior. The new twincam engines were the 4E-F, 4E-FE, and the 4E-FTE, featuring a CT9 turbocharger, though export models retained the 1E and 2E engines. The available models were the Soleil, best selling Soleil L, S, X, X Limited, Si, Canvas Top, the sports model Gi and GT Turbo. The 81 Starlet participated in the WRC Acropolis Rally in Greece, and won the A5 class race. The Starlet also competed in races in Japan, Indonesia and in the Caribbean. 1992 the saw a Chuki minor change, new fuel injection, front bumper and revised interior, was well as a safety beam inside the doors. A kouki model was released in 1994 with new front and tail lights, and other minor changes.
90 Series
The 90 series Starlet was introduced in 1996 also as a 3 or 5-door hatchback. The new model features a unique, sloped-down belt line design, on the front doors. The 90 series was available in 3 models: Reflect (normal), Glanza (sports), and Carat (classic). The Glanza model was a re-named and redesigned version of the Starlet GT Turbo, though it was still the same engine, power had been increased to 130 bhp (97 kW) and later to 133 bhp (99 kW). Two models called the Glanza S which was powered by the 4E-FE engine, and the Glanza V had the 4E-FTE engine were available. The EP91 was also available as a lightweight track version. The Kouki minor change in 1998 updated the front bumpers, grille, tail lights, and revised the interior fabric.
Like the Starlet models before it, the EP82 and EP91 are highly popular tuning bases for hot hatchback lovers and Circuit/Gymkhana racers. The 4E-FTE turbo engines have given these Starlets a lot of potential, and make them great alternatives to the popular FF Honda tuning bases. A notable tuner for 4E engines is Hokkaido-based Cruise, which has a small, but great looking catalog of engine and turbo parts available to up the power output and response of your Starlet.
