TOYOTA JZA80 Supra
about JZA80 Supra
The Mark IV JZA80 Supra entered production at Toyota in 1993. It represented a giant leap in the direction of a full performance car. The new stylings of the Supra featured a more rounded look. The Mark IV was available with 2 engine options. The NA 2JZ-GE, producing 220 hp (160 kW; 220 PS) and 210 ft/lb (280 N/m) of torque, or the twin turbocharged 2JZ-GTE, making 280 hp (209 kW; 284 PS) and 318 ft/lb (431 N/m) of torque.
The export model featured a small engine upgrade, increasing the power output to 320 hp (240 kW; 320 PS) and 315 ft/lb (427 N/m) of torque. This engine setup could achieve 0–100km/h in as low as 4.7 seconds and 1/4 mile (402 m) in 13.1 seconds, at 175 km/h. The turbo version could reach more than 291 km/h in a all-stock setup, but electronic limiters need to be removed first.
The secret to the fast acceleration is the sequential turbos, eliminating turbo lag. Also the Mark IV featured reduced weight over its predecessor. The curb weight was still a little high, but this was offset by the superior brake and suspension system, that gave it record breaking handling. The car became a racing icon, after appearing in several video games, movies, music videos and TV shows, such as Gran Turismo, Need for Speed and The Fast and the Furious.
The JZA80 is a tuning monster. The 3 liter 2JZ-GTE engine puts out an amazing amount of torque and can easily boost-up to close to the 400hp when maxing out the capabilities of the stock turbines. Drag racing is by default, a great place to see such a powerful car in action. The JZA80 has also proven itself to be a great handling car despite its looks. Top Secret owner, Smokey Nagata is a big JZA80 fanatic, having built high power Supras for high speed and circuit action. Nagata has also experimented with other engines in the JZA80, like the RB26DETT from the Skyline GT-R, and the 1GZ-FE V12 engine from the Toyota Century.
