TOYOTA MR-S ZZW30
about MR-S ZZW30
The Toyota MR-S was the conclusion of the popular Toyota MR2 line of cars. The MR-S was sold under different names abroad, in the United States it was called the MR2 Spyder, and in Europe the MR2 Roadster. MR-S was a complete makeover compared to the 2 previous models. One of the biggest changes was the replacement of the solid, T-Top, and sunroof options with a true convertible soft top, giving the car the 'Spyder' designation. Gone were the pop-up headlights.
The only engine available for the ZZW30 was the new aluminium 1ZZ-FED, a 1794cc I4, DOHC 16 valved engine. The intake camshaft timing was adjustable via the VVT-i system. The small engine produced 138 hp (104 kW), but because of the low weight it could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. While the design was not to everyones liking, the MR-S featured the best handling of all previous MR2 models, and is generally considered near perfect. The MR-S has also proved itself in professional motorsports. In the JGTC/Super GT Championship's GT300 class, a Reckless MR-S won the 2005 championship. Previously in 2002, the ARTA Toyota MR-S also won the GT300. The MR-S served in the series until 2008.
The relatively low engine power of the MR-S is often overcome by an engine swap with the more powerful 2ZZ-GE, another popular choice or the addition of a supercharger, with bolt-on kits available from many of the top performance companies such as Power Enterprise, Top Secret, or TOM'S. Although not a common sight at the track, the MR has plenty of potential (as seen in the professional motorsports scene) and a lot of support from the tuning industry. Aero Parts, Exhaust, Suspension, and more are readily available to build a one of a kind MR-S to dominate the competition.
