TOYOTA Tourer V Cresta Mark II Chaser
about Tourer V Cresta Mark II Chaser
The JZX Tourer V's were three sport sedan models based on the same base chassis. The Mark II, Chaser, and Cresta. The Cresta designed as the luxury type model, the Chaser, a pure performance sedan, and the Mark II, a mix between the two. The line most notably featured the popular 1JZ-GE / 1JZ-GTE engine. The JZX90 models featured the Twin turbocharged 1JZ-GTE engine while the JZX100 and JZX110 models were equipped with a VVT-i and single turbocharged 1JZ-GTE engine, generated 280 horsepower (210 kW), and 363 n/m (268 ft/lb) of torque. This particular engine is a very popular tuning base for its durability and ability to produce large amounts of power.
Cresta
This rear wheel drive 4-door hardtop was originally released in 1980, and the Tourer V version in 1992. The Cresta was designed to provide a higher level of luxury, catering to the performance oriented executives market.
Mark II
The Mark II has been a popular performance car for more than a decade. The mark II was initially available with a 1.8~2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine, the top models being electronically limited to 280 bhp. In 1992 the Tourer V was released, with the 1JZ-GTE inline 6 engine, traction control, ABS and optional upgraded LSD and gearbox, this was and still is one of the most popular drift and track cars available. The JZX100 model was released in 1996, featuring the ETCS and VVT-i system as well as upgrades to the car's handling and change to a single turbo setup for a smoother torque delivery and better fuel economy.
Chaser
Similar to the Cresta and the Mark II, the Chaser Tourer V was released in 1992, featuring the twin turbo charged 1JZ-GTE. Keeping with the sporty image of the Chaser a manual transmission was available. The model change to the JZX100 model was an increased sports sedan-like design featuring an updated exterior and smart new stylings. The engine was also a 1JZ-GTE inline 6 engine, with VVT-i, and an optional electronic control flex lockup 4 speed automatic (intelligent) (ECT-iE) transmission.
The JZX Tourer V's and later iR-V's are extremely popular for their performance capabilities as well as their giant bodies. The 1JZ-GTE engine not only makes these cars great for Drifting, but for Drag and High Speed racing as well. Because of their luxurious looks, the JZX cars are also said to be great for car enthusiasts wanting the performance, as well as the the ability to pick up women. With the population of S-Chassis cars dropping, the popularity of JZX cars is growing, with attendance of the big four doors in drifting events around japan matching the numbers of Silvias/180SX's.
