The Camry was a popular mid-sized car that was success in both the domestic market and abroad. An upgraded version of the Camry was sold as the Windom in Japan, and exported as the Lexus ES.


Fifth generation (XV20; 1996–2001)


The XV20 Camry was the 5th generation Camry released in 1996 and was available as a sedan or station wagon. Available engines were the 133 hp SAE (99 kW), 5S-FE 2.2 L I4 engine, and the 194 hp SAE (145 kW) 1MZ-FE V6 engine, with manual transmission available for some models. Supercharger kits were also available for the V6, boosting power to 247 hp, and 242 ft/lb of torque.


Sixth generation (XV30; 2001–2006)


The 2002 model Toyota Camry, the XV30 was a larger Sedan, dropping the station wagon model. In the U.S. a SE sports model was introduced. Available with a manual transmission for the models equipped with l4 engines, the Camry was now available with the all-new 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE VVT-i I4 engine, or the 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE V6 engine. The 2005 models featured a change to the V6 models, now featuring a 3.0-liter 1MZ-FE with VVT-i, and the SE models featuring the 3.3-liter 3MZ-FE V6.


Seventh generation (XV40; 2006–present)


The seventh generation Camry featured a new, sleeker design. Introduced in 2006, this version came with either a four or six cylinder engine. The 158 horsepower (118 kW), 161 ft/lb, 2.4 L 2AZ-FE I4 engine or the 268 horsepower (200 kW), 248 ft/lb, 3.5 L 2GF-FE V6, the latter only available with automatic transmission. The sporty SE Camry featured a number of performance upgrades, improved springs, dampers, roll bar, bushings and bigger tires. Also a number of braces were added to stiffen up the suspension
